Wildcats Win Memorial Cup!!!

2010-05-05

The Moncton Wildcats have broken the curse that the Memorial Cup tournament has plagued the team with the last three years...and that is losing in the final of the Memorial Cup tournament.  The first two years the Wildcats lost in the final game of the tournament and this year the Wildcats went undefeated in the round robin to have the best record and get the bye to the finals and then on to defeat the Seatle Thunderbirds 4-2 to capture the prize that has eluded them in the two previous seasons.  I guess third time really is the charm.  This represents the first time a team from the QMJHL has won the Memorial Cup in the three year existence.  The other two wins came from the OHL and the WHL has yet to have a representative win the coveted prize.

This has clearly been the best team the Wildcats have iced in the last three seasons and the results have paid off.  Moncton has been a dominant force in not only the QMJHL, but the entire CHL finishing in the Top 10 in the country in all three seasons.  General Manager Andrew Arcesi commented after the win and stated that this is what this team has been playing for all season and what the management team has been building since day 1 of the league.  I promised the people of Moncton and of this outstanding organization that we would win a Memorial Cup in the first 5 years of the league and I have come through with that promise.  This team has performed above my expectations every season and it truly amazes me how well the coaching staff has worked with these fine group of young men.  I am proud to be a member of this team and I look forward to the rebuilding process of this team and I assure you that we will be in championship contension again in the next 2-3 years since most of our players won't be returning as they will be going pro or have been traded to other teams for our championship run.

Way to go Cats!!!
